Anger Erupts in Pimpri-Chinchwad Over MNGL Gas Pipeline Work
- Allegations of road digging without depositing Rs. 9.72 crore with civic body; demand for action against contractor
- Gas pipeline work underway in eight wards | Residents troubled by incomplete digging | Demand to complete work before monsoon
Pimpri : Strong resentment is growing among citizens in Pimpri-Chinchwad over the ongoing CNG and PNG gas pipeline works being carried out by Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) across the city. Allegations have surfaced that roads are being dug up in several areas without depositing the mandatory amount of Rs. 9.72 crore with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
BJP worker Sachin Kalbhor has submitted a memorandum to the PCMC Commissioner demanding immediate intervention in the matter.
According to information mentioned in the memorandum, MNGL has undertaken gas pipeline work in eight wards of the city. However, the company allegedly began excavation work without depositing the required Rs. 9.72 crore with the civic administration.
Residents across several localities have complained that roads have been dug up and left incomplete, causing severe inconvenience to commuters and pedestrians. Large potholes and uneven stretches have made traffic movement risky, especially for two-wheeler riders and pedestrians. Citizens fear that the situation may worsen further with the onset of the monsoon.
In his memorandum, Sachin Kalbhor stated that the municipal administration must ensure that there is no financial loss to the corporation. He demanded that MNGL immediately deposit the pending amount of Rs. 9.72 crore with PCMC. Failing this, the ongoing pipeline work should be stopped immediately and punitive action should be initiated against the concerned contractor and company.
He also demanded that all incomplete works be finished and roads restored before the monsoon to avoid inconvenience to citizens. In many areas, dug-up roads have reportedly led to traffic congestion, dust pollution and unhygienic conditions.
Meanwhile, citizens have urged the municipal administration to conduct an inquiry into the matter and take strict action if any violations of civic work regulations are found.
Residents have also demanded immediate intervention by the administration to ensure that development works do not become a source of hardship for the public or damage civic infrastructure.
