Chakan MIDC on Fast Track; Roads, Parking and Drainage Get Major Push

• 45 MSF personnel, crane and 50 jammers planned to tackle traffic congestion

Pune : Most ongoing road development works in the Chakan industrial area have gained momentum, with the administration focusing on easing traffic congestion and improving key infrastructure. A meeting of the Chakan MIDC Infrastructure Committee, chaired by Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, was held on Thursday to review road development, traffic management and other infrastructure projects.

The meeting reviewed works related to roads, traffic management, parking, drainage, power supply, road dividers and beautification in the industrial area.

Key roads under development

The Chakan industrial area has roads under multiple agencies, including 25 km under MIDC, 12.8 km under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), 22 km under the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) and 17.5 km under PMRDA. Officials were directed to ensure coordination among the agencies and expedite pending works.

The 5.50-km cement-concrete work on the 75-metre-wide main road in Phase II has been completed. The 4.03-km six-lane road in Phase IV, including cement-concrete work, footpath repairs, central dividers and beautification, is underway, with around 80 per cent of the work completed.

Cement-concrete work on 14.65 km of main roads in Phases I and II, the 5.70-km road from Alandi Phata (Spicer Chowk) to the Volkswagen-Skoda plant in Phase III, and the 4.40-km four-lane main road in Phase V is also in progress.

Measures to tackle traffic congestion

The MIDC headquarters has approved a proposal to deploy 45 MSF personnel to help manage traffic congestion in the industrial area. The proposal has been communicated to the police department.

MIDC has also approved providing one crane and 50 wheel clamps/jammers to the traffic police to help regulate traffic and remove obstructions. Further action is underway.

The administration has also taken steps to close unauthorised openings in road dividers on the national highway, with measures being implemented to improve traffic discipline.

Parking and permanent drainage solutions

A designated parking facility has been started in the industrial area, while work on road-side shoulders is being undertaken on a priority basis. Collector Jitendra Dudi directed officials to create a permanent drainage system at locations prone to waterlogging. A consultant will be appointed to design a long-term solution capable of handling water accumulation even during the monsoon, instead of relying on temporary measures.

Power infrastructure strengthened

A required transformer from MSEDCL has been made available and construction work for its installation is underway. Around 25 per cent of the work has been completed. Officials said the facility will provide power capacity exceeding the requirement currently expected by the MIDC area.

Road dividers and beautification

Collector Dudi directed officials to prepare a regular inspection and maintenance plan for road dividers. He also called for comprehensive urban landscaping and beautification planning to improve the overall appearance and infrastructure of the industrial area.

MP Dr Amol Kolhe and MLA Babaji Kale raised various issues and suggestions concerning the industrial area. Collector Dudi assured that the concerned agencies would coordinate and take necessary action on the issues raised.
