‘Malavazhi’ Wins Best Film, ‘A Story Carved on a Tree’ Best Short Film at PCIFF 2026

Pimpri, : The Malayalam film Malavazhi from Kerala won the Best Film award at the Pimpri Chinchwad International Film Festival 2026, while the Marathi short film A Story Carved on a Tree won the Best Short Film award.

The film The Wet Wall from Rajasthan won the Best Animation Film award. Actor Dulal Roy and Pranav Joshi shared the Best Actor award, while Mithila Hiremath received the Best Actress award.

Filmmaker Rohan Kanawade, director of the internationally acclaimed film Sabar Bonda, was honoured with the PCIFF Young Inspiring Cine Icon Award 2026.

The award ceremony was held at G. D. Madgulkar Theatre and was organised with the support of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation along with the Pimpri Chinchwad Film Society and Gatha Film Society.

This year’s festival showcased more than 116 films including feature films, short films, documentaries, animation films and 60-second films from 43 countries, including Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Brazil and the UAE.

Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar said such cultural events provide an important platform for artists and help strengthen the city’s cultural movement.

The festival concluded with the screening of the Marathi film Krantijyoti Vidyalaya – Marathi Medium, which received an enthusiastic response from the audience for its emotional portrayal of Marathi-medium education and cultural values.
