PMC Earns Over Rs. 5,300 Crore from Property Tax and Building Permissions
– Revenue Growth Continues Despite Both Departments Missing Targets
Pune : Despite falling short of their respective revenue targets, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)’s property tax and building permissions departments together generated over ₹5,300 crore in the financial year 2025–26, providing a significant boost to the civic body’s finances.
According to civic officials, the property tax department collected ₹2,985.67 crore against a target of ₹3,250 crore. Although the target was not fully achieved, the department recorded a significant increase in collection compared to the previous year, largely due to the Amnesty Scheme.
The Amnesty Scheme, introduced to encourage defaulters to clear pending dues, contributed ₹954.78 crore to the total revenue. The civic administration extended the scheme deadline twice to ensure maximum participation from taxpayers.
Officials said special recovery drives were conducted and dedicated teams were deployed to improve tax collection. Facilitation centres were kept open even on holidays, and online payment systems were streamlined to make tax payment easier for citizens.
Meanwhile, the building permissions department generated revenue of ₹2,341.84 crore against a target of ₹2,853 crore. Officials attributed the shortfall mainly to delays in land measurement processes, which affected approvals. However, the department recorded a significant rise in March, collecting ₹588.82 crore in a single month.
Senior officials said that although both departments missed their targets, the overall revenue performance shows steady financial growth supported by policy measures and administrative efforts to streamline revenue collection.
