MLA Shankar Jagtap Slams Commissioner Over Remarks on Pimpri-Chinchwad
– Says City’s History, Industrial Growth and Cultural Legacy Must Be Respected
Pimpri : MLA Shankar Jagtap slammed Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi over his remarks on Pimpri-Chinchwad’s global identity, saying citizens will not tolerate any insult to the city’s pride.
In a press release, Jagtap said the Commissioner’s remarks, which he came across through newspaper and television news reports were highly condemnable and irresponsible. He said a city that built its global identity through industrial growth and the hard work of its people should not be spoken about in such a manner.
He highlighted that Pimpri-Chinchwad is a historic and culturally significant land associated with saints like Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj, as well as freedom fighters like the Chapekar brothers. Making statements that the city is not known globally is an insult to the city’s history, culture, and people, he said.
Jagtap also stated, that Pimpri-Chinchwad has played a major role as an industrial engine in India’s growth and has gained global recognition due to major industries such as Tata Motors, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen. He added that the city has also developed as an IT hub and Smart City due to visionary leadership at the state and national level.
He further stated that the city’s progress has been built on the sacrifices and contributions of local residents who gave their land and support for development. He advised the Commissioner to focus on transparency in municipal administration and pending development works instead of making such statements.
Lastly, Jagtap highlighted by saying that the Pimpri-Chinchwad is a matter of pride not only for Maharashtra but for the entire country and no one should attempt to undermine the identity and self-respect of its people.
