PCMC Orders Probe into Alleged Rs. 50 Crore Financial Transactions

Pimpri : A controversy over alleged financial transactions worth Rs. 50 crore in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has taken a new turn, with Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi announcing an inquiry into the role of Chief Accounts and Finance Officer Pravin Jain.

A committee headed by Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate has been constituted to investigate the matter and is expected to submit its report within seven days. Pending the probe, all payments to contractors related to the transactions have been temporarily halted through banks.

The issue surfaced after Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne alleged that large payments were made without budgetary provisions and claimed misuse of corporators’ signatures through alleged bogus sub-proposals.

In response, the accounts department stated that due procedures were followed, explaining that delayed sub-proposals received after the March 24 budget meeting were scrutinized and processed on March 30.

The matter has raised concerns over financial governance within the civic body, and attention is now focused on the findings of the inquiry committee and the administration’s next course of action.
