17-Year Delay: Tathawade ZP School Still Not Transferred to PCMC

Pimpri : A serious administrative lapse has come to light in Tathawade, where a Zilla Parishad (ZP) school continues to function under district administration even after nearly 17 years of the area’s inclusion in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The delay has raised concerns over the educational rights and welfare of students.

Around 435 students are currently enrolled in the school, many of whom reportedly lack access to basic and modern facilities. Classrooms face a shortage of benches, forcing several students to sit on the floor. Essential amenities such as clean drinking water, sanitation facilities, regular health check-ups, sports equipment, computer labs, and science laboratories are either inadequate or unavailable, impacting both learning outcomes and student health.

Taking cognizance of the issue, corporator Shruti Wakadkar met the PCMC Commissioner and submitted a formal memorandum demanding immediate action. BJP city vice president Ram Wakadkar, corporator Kunal Vavhalakar, and corporator Reshma Bhujbal were also present during the meeting.

The delegation has urged authorities to transfer the ZP school to PCMC control at the earliest and ensure the provision of all necessary facilities. As an alternative, they have also proposed the construction of a new, fully equipped municipal school building in Tathawade.

Citing the urgency of safeguarding students’ educational rights and safety, the representatives have called for swift and decisive action from the administration.
