PMRDA Commissioner Reviews Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro Progress
Pune : The much-awaited Metro Line 3 connecting Hinjewadi IT Park to Shivajinagar has entered its final phase, with authorities aiming to operationalise the first phase by May 2026.
Abhijit Chaudhari, Metropolitan Commissioner of Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, conducted an on-ground inspection of the entire 23.2-km stretch on Thursday. He reviewed progress across all 23 stations and instructed officials to accelerate work without compromising on safety and quality.
The inspection followed a high-level meeting held a day earlier, in line with directions from Devendra Fadnavis to execute the project in “mission mode.” Senior officials, including Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan and CEO Anil Kumar Saini of PITCMRL, were present during the visit.
Officials stated that 94.2% of the project work has been completed, with signalling tests currently underway. Mandatory inspections by RDSO and CMRS have also been completed.
The first phase will see 12 stations becoming operational, significantly easing traffic congestion in Hinjewadi and benefiting thousands of IT professionals by reducing travel time between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar.
Metro Line 3 is India’s first public-private partnership (PPP) metro project, developed at a cost of ₹8,313 crore, with Tata Group’s TRIL and Siemens Project Ventures as key partners.
Authorities have assured full support to ensure timely completion of the project.
