22-Year-Old Killed, One Injured in Three-Vehicle Crash Near Navale Bridge
Pune : A 22-year-old man was killed and another sustained serious injuries in a three-vehicle collision on the Mumbai–Bengaluru National Highway (NH-4) near Navale Bridge in Narhe on Monday morning, police said.
The accident took place around 8.05 am on the Mumbai-bound lane near a hotel in the area. According to police, a speeding container truck allegedly rammed into a pickup vehicle from behind, triggering a chain collision involving a third goods vehicle.
The pickup driver, identified as Mahadev Uttam Shende (22), died on the spot due to the impact. Another occupant, Sumit Dattu Kamble (22), a resident of Indapur taluka, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a private hospital on Sinhagad Road for treatment.
Police said the force of the collision pushed the pickup into another Tata Eicher vehicle, leading to a three-vehicle pile-up and temporary disruption of traffic on the busy highway stretch.
Personnel from Narhe police station reached the spot and shifted the damaged vehicles to the roadside to restore traffic movement. The statement of the injured survivor is being recorded.
Senior police inspector Asaram Shete said a case is being registered and further investigation is underway. Authorities indicated that rash and negligent driving could be a factor in the incident.
