Teachers play key role in shaping responsible citizens, Says MLA Shankar Jagtap
PIMPRI : Teachers do more than impart academic knowledge; they play a crucial role in shaping students into responsible and value-driven citizens, said Pimpri-Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap.
He was speaking at an Ideal Teacher Awards ceremony organised by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Education Department on the occasion of Teachers’ Day at the Prof. Ramakrishna More Auditorium in Chinchwad.
Jagtap said the educational initiatives being implemented in PCMC schools are no less than those in private schools. He noted that parents are increasingly showing interest in admitting their children to municipal schools, with some schools witnessing queues for admission.
He also urged teachers in municipal schools to continue making efforts through their work to create a more positive perception of PCMC schools among citizens.
PCMC Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi, Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar, Leader of Opposition Bhausaheb Bhoir, Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne, Education Committee Chairperson Ravina Angolkar and Women and Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Ranimai Pathare were among those present at the event.
Additional Commissioner Vikrant Bagade, Deputy Commissioner Mamta Shinde, Administrative Officer Sangeeta Bangar, members of the Education Committee and corporators also attended the programme.
A total of 38 teachers, headmasters and non-teaching employees who have made notable contributions to the education sector were felicitated with awards presented by MLA Shankar Jagtap and Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi.
Teachers have a key role in students’ overall development
Speaking at the event, Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi said teachers play an important role in every individual’s life and described the Education Department as one of the most important departments of the municipal corporation.
He said teachers have the responsibility of helping students become responsible and aware citizens. Along with academic development, teachers should work towards improving students’ emotional intelligence and identifying and encouraging their positive qualities.
A teacher, he said, is not merely a person who imparts subject knowledge but also plays an important role in the overall development of a student’s personality. Continuous efforts are required to support the emotional, social and intellectual development of students, he added.
Education Committee Chairperson Ravina Angolkar also addressed the gathering, while Deputy Commissioner Mamta Shinde delivered the introductory remarks.

As part of the Teachers’ Day award ceremony, teachers, non-teaching staff and administrative employees who made notable contributions in various fields were honoured.
Ideal Anganwadi Teacher Awards: Vandana Parate, Sangeeta Ingle and Rajashree Walunj.
Ideal Teacher – Primary Section: Surekha Kunjir, Veena Dabhade, Manisha Pingle, Rajashree Raskar, Yogeshwari Lonkar, Jyoti Giri, Savita Kamble, Sunita Bamane, Sunita Dahiphale, Vandana Jagnade, Balasaheb Jadhav and Pratibha Nevkar.
Special Awards: Pooja Kadam and Sunila Diwane.
Ideal Teacher – Secondary Section: Kavita Pacharne, Nasifa Sheikh, Aparna Chincholkar, Rupali Gatha, Damhe Nutanlal and Vidya Misal.
Ideal Teacher – Private Section: Manisha Kalashetti and Vijayashree Kajale.
Ideal Teacher – PCMC and Institution-Run Schools: Supriya Patil and Gokul Pawar.
Employees who made significant contributions to administrative work and the day-to-day management of schools were also honoured with special awards. They included Assistant Administrative Officer Raziya Khan, supervisors Jaymala Gawade and Saraswati Bhegde, Pramila Jadhav, Jyoti Tapkir, Sujata Karjatkar, Pramila Hole, Shrikant Chougule, Anjali Jhagde, Khaleeda Khan and Sunita Gite.
