PCMC Mayor Directs Diwali Bonus for Contractual Workers

Yashwant Bhosale leads workers’ march, secures assurance from Mayor Ravi Landge

Pimpri : In a significant development for contractual and honorarium-based employees of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Mayor Ravi Landge has directed the civic administration to initiate immediate action to ensure payment of Diwali bonuses and pending salaries before November 3, 2026.

The directions came following a meeting between Mayor Landge and National Shramik Aghadi founder-president and labour leader Yashwantbhau Bhosale, who led a ‘Vinम्र Abhiyan Padyatra’ to the PCMC headquarters on Thursday. Thousands of contractual workers participated in the march, raising slogans demanding justice and their employment-related rights.

During the meeting at the Mayor’s office, Bhosale submitted a memorandum demanding that all eligible contractual and honorarium-based employees receive their 2025-26 annual bonus and monthly salaries before Diwali. Responding positively, Landge instructed Chief Labour Welfare Officer Pramod Jagtap to initiate immediate action and issue a circular directing contractors to pay the eligible workers.

Landge said all contractual and honorarium-based employees working with the civic body should receive their legally admissible bonuses. He indicated that the circular would be issued by Thursday evening or Friday and that the payment process would be finalised subsequently.

The memorandum also raised several long-pending demands concerning approximately 4,500 contractual workers employed across various PCMC departments, including health, sanitation, medical services, gardens, fire services, schools, crematoriums and water supply.

The demands include equal pay for equal work, family insurance coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh, compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the family in case of an employee’s accidental or illness-related death, and employment for eligible dependants on compassionate grounds.

Bhosale said some contractors were allegedly avoiding bonus payments by claiming that the amount was already included in workers’ salaries. He urged the administration to take action against such contractors and ensure that eligible employees receive their dues.

He further said Landge had assured a separate meeting on Monday or Tuesday to discuss equal pay, insurance coverage, issues concerning nurses working on an honorarium basis and matters related to permanent employees.

Chief Labour Welfare Officer Pramod Jagtap confirmed that instructions would be issued to contractors across departments regarding bonus payments and that further discussions would be held on the remaining demands.

Bhosale thanked the Mayor for his positive response and said the organisation would continue its efforts to secure workers’ legitimate rights.
