MLA Cup District-Level Volleyball Championship Kicks Off in Nigdi
Pimpri : Emphasising the importance of sports alongside academics, Mayor Ravi Landge on Friday said that participation in sports is essential for the holistic development of students in today’s competitive era.
The MLA Cup District-Level Volleyball Championship 2026, organised by the Rural Sports Talent Development Project and MLC Uma Khapre, was inaugurated at Gyan Prabodhini Navnagar Vidyalaya in Nigdi amid an enthusiastic atmosphere. The event was formally opened by the mayor.
Speaking on the occasion, Landge said, that sports help inculcate leadership qualities, decision-making ability, discipline and self-confidence among students. “Students should actively participate in various sports competitions along with their academic pursuits. Sporting spirit is equally important,” he said.
Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar, chairman of the civic body’s arts, sports and cultural committee Kailas Kute, corporator Amit Gavade, centre head Dr Manoj Deolkar of Gyan Prabodhini Nigdi, Jaydeep Khapre, along with teachers, students, sports enthusiasts and players.
Landge further noted that such competitions provide a vital platform for talented players from rural areas to showcase their abilities. “It is through such events that future state and national-level athletes emerge,” he added.
The inauguration witnessed a strong turnout and high enthusiasm among players and spectators. Participants expressed that the championship would offer aspiring rural athletes an opportunity to prove their talent and help boost interest in sports among the youth.
