Diwali Bus Fare Hike ? Pune RTO Warns Operators
Overcharging passengers will invite action; RTO opens WhatsApp complaint channel
PUNE : The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has warned private bus operators against charging fares beyond the limits prescribed by the state government during the Diwali festival. Operators found violating the prescribed fare limits will face action under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and relevant rules, Regional Transport Officer Archana Gaikwad said.
With passenger traffic increasing during the festive season, complaints of private bus operators charging exorbitant fares are frequently reported. Against this backdrop, the Pune RTO held a meeting with representatives of private bus operators to discuss measures to prevent the financial exploitation of passengers and improve road safety.
Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale, probationary Assistant Regional Transport Officers Rahul Fasale and Rohit Arsul, along with 26 representatives of the bus operators’ association, attended the meeting.
According to the government resolution issued on April 20, 2018, private bus operators are required to charge fares within the prescribed limits. The RTO will closely monitor compliance during the Diwali period and take action against operators found charging passengers more than the permitted amount.
The RTO has also directed bus operators to ensure passenger safety by prohibiting drivers from driving under the influence of alcohol or using mobile phones while driving. Drivers must follow road safety rules, take adequate precautions to protect passengers and ensure that all mandatory vehicle documents remain valid.
Passengers who face overcharging or notice other violations have been urged to register complaints through WhatsApp at 8275330209.
Complainants should provide their name, mobile number and a photograph of the ticket while submitting their complaint, the RTO said.
