PCMC House Adjourned Amid Uproar Over Chief Engineer’s Bribery Case
Corporators Question Commissioner’s Role; House Leader Prashant Shitole Demands Adjournment Until November 20
Pimpri-Chinchwad : The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) General Body meeting witnessed heated exchanges on Friday over the alleged bribery case involving Chief Engineer Pramod Ombase. Corporators criticised the civic administration for its handling of the matter and questioned Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi’s role, eventually leading to the adjournment of the meeting until November 20.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar in the absence of Mayor Ravi Landge. The controversy intensified when the Commissioner arrived during the discussion on the bribery case but left the House within approximately ten minutes. His brief presence triggered strong reactions from corporators, who questioned the administration’s seriousness regarding the issue.
Corporators Vishwajeet Barne and Bhausaheb Bhoir raised the matter and questioned the administration’s response. Jitendra Nanaware alleged that certain officials were involved in corrupt practices, had accumulated disproportionate assets and were not responding to corporators’ phone calls. He also questioned whether elected representatives were being given due respect.
Anant Korhale expressed concern over officials facing criminal cases allegedly returning to work. He demanded strict action, including dismissal of the officials concerned.
Corporator Sheetal Shinde termed the bribery incident a matter of embarrassment for the city. He also raised concerns over alleged unauthorised constructions involving Morya Developers, Bhakti Builders, Daffodils and Runal Developers. Referring to the alleged unauthorised eighth-floor construction at the Daffodils project, he highlighted discrepancies between sanctioned plans and actual construction, warning of possible difficulties for flat buyers and future redevelopment. He also questioned fire safety arrangements. Kunal Vavhalakar supported demands for strict action against the officials concerned.
House Leader Prashant Shitole criticised the Commissioner for leaving during the discussion, alleging that the administration was not treating the matter with sufficient seriousness. He demanded adjournment in protest, following which the meeting was adjourned until November 20.
Meanwhile, the PCMC administration clarified that the Commissioner had to attend an urgent video conference related to the Prime Minister’s PRAGATI initiative. Additional Commissioner Kuldeep Jangam was instructed to remain in the House. The Commissioner was returning after the meeting but learnt that the General Body session had already been adjourned.
