PCMC Pays Tribute to Sir M Visvesvaraya on National Engineers’ Day
- Civic officials honour Bharat Ratna awardee on his birth anniversary
PIMPRI : The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) observed National Engineers’ Day on Tuesday by paying tribute to Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
PCMC Leader of Opposition Bhausaheb Bhoir and Additional Commissioner Vikrant Bagade paid floral tributes to Visvesvaraya’s portrait at the civic body’s main administrative building.
City Engineer Manoj Sethiya, Joint Commissioner Manoj Lonkar, Chief Information and Technology Officer Vijay Borude, former Additional Commissioner Pravin Tupe, Deputy Commissioners Anna Bodade and Sitaram Bahure, Public Relations Officer Praful Puranik, and Pimpri-Chinchwad Employees’ Federation president Baban Zinjurde were among those present. Engineers, municipal employees and citizens also attended the programme.
Visvesvaraya’s contribution to the country’s infrastructure development, water management and industrial development was remembered during the programme. His vision, dedication and technical expertise provided a new direction to the country’s development and continue to inspire engineers, officials said.
The role of PCMC engineers in the planned and modern development of Pimpri-Chinchwad was also highlighted. Engineers are working on various aspects of civic infrastructure, including roads and transportation, water supply, drainage and environment-friendly development, besides other essential civic services.
September 15 is observed as National Engineers’ Day in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. The day recognises the contribution of engineers to society and highlights their role in development. Through technology, innovation and inventions, engineers contribute to social progress and efforts towards a sustainable future.
Meanwhile, Mayor Ravi Landge, Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar and Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne also paid floral tributes to the portrait of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.
