Questions Raised Over Civic Mechanical Department Amid Water Crisis in Pimpri-Chinchwad
Pimpri : Serious concerns are being raised over the functioning of the Municipal Corporation’s Mechanical Department at a time when the city is grappling with acute water scarcity.
While residents continue to struggle for adequate water supply, reports have surfaced alleging that some fitter staff in the department are using water to wash their personal two-wheelers and four-wheelers, triggering public outrage.
According to available information, the Mechanical Department is reportedly overstaffed, with several employees said to be sitting idle. In contrast, the water purification and supply department in Sector 24 is facing a shortage of manpower, raising questions over the allocation of staff and administrative priorities.
The issue has reportedly been taken cognizance of by the Standing Committee, and instructions have been issued to Executive Engineer Kailas Divekar. The Mayor has also acknowledged the increasing number of complaints. However, allegations are being made that the administration is being misled, and that expenditure on non-performing staff is putting additional strain on the civic body’s finances.
Citizens have demanded a thorough inquiry into the matter and strict action against those found responsible.
