PCMC Approves Rs. 30,000 DiwaliBonus for Garbage Collection Workers

Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne approves special festive reward for contractual sanitation workforce; decision brings cheer among employees

PIMPRI : In a major festive relief for the sanitation workforce of Pimpri-Chinchwad, the Municipal Corporation has approved a special Diwali bonus of ₹30,000 for employees working under garbage collection contractors engaged by its Health Department for the financial year 2025–26.
The decision was approved by Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne, following the administrative approval granted by Municipal Commissioner on November 2, 2026. The Standing Committee has now cleared the expenditure towards the special Diwali incentive, bringing cheer among the contractual workers responsible for maintaining cleanliness across the city.
Garbage collection workers play a crucial role in keeping Pimpri-Chinchwad clean and protecting public health. Working across all ten ward offices, they undertake daily door-to-door waste collection and ensure the regular transportation of garbage from residential and commercial areas.
The garbage collection contractor system has been operating under the PCMC Health Department since 1997, covering the A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J and L ward offices.
The Municipal Corporation has maintained a tradition of providing special Diwali rewards to garbage collection contractor workers since 2006. During the previous financial year, 2024–25, a special Diwali reward of ₹30,000 was also sanctioned for each eligible garbage collection contractor worker.
Continuing the same practice, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Employees’ Federation and various garbage collection contractors had submitted requests seeking a special Diwali reward for the financial year 2025–26.

Taking cognisance of the workers’ demand and their contribution to the city’s sanitation services, the Municipal Commissioner granted official approval on November 2, 2026, for a Diwali reward of ₹30,000 per contractor worker, in line with the previous year’s arrangement. Following the Commissioner’s approval, the Standing Committee has sanctioned the expenditure required to implement the decision.

The move is expected to provide financial support to the sanitation workforce during the festive season and recognise the efforts of workers who continue to deliver essential civic services throughout the year.

Abhishek Barne’s Statement

“Garbage collection contractors and their employees shoulder the important responsibility of keeping our city clean and hygienic through their tireless efforts. It is the responsibility of the Municipal Corporation to recognise their hard work and extend financial support to them during the festive season.

The decision to provide a Diwali reward of ₹30,000 this year, just as we did last year, is a meaningful step in the interest of these workers. I am confident that this initiative will add happiness to their Diwali and ensure that their hard work receives due recognition.”
