Facebook Travel Trap: Ravet Senior Citizen Duped of Rs. 4 Lakh
PIMPRI : A 66-year-old resident of Ravet was allegedly cheated of around Rs. 4 lakh after responding to a Facebook advertisement offering bookings for a Char Dham pilgrimage, police said.
According to the police complaint, the incident took place between July 27 and August 26 when the complainant, identified as Ramnivas Gupta (66), came across an advertisement on Facebook for a Char Dham pilgrimage, purportedly associated with Himalayan Heli Services.
After contacting the number mentioned in the advertisement, a person identifying himself as “Abhishek Sir Himalayan Tours” provided details about the pilgrimage and asked Gupta to make online payments for the booking.
The caller later allegedly told him that separate insurance had to be arranged for each traveller and demanded additional payments. Gupta subsequently became suspicious and tried to contact the person, but the calls went unanswered.
The complaint states that the flight booking tickets were cancelled and money was withdrawn from Gupta’s account.
Ravet police have registered a case against an unidentified person and launched an investigation into the alleged online financial fraud. Police are examining the payment transactions and other details linked to the advertisement and the person who contacted the complainant.
