Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Raise Cyber Fraud Alert at PMRDA

Pimpri : Cyber fraud victims should not remain silent out of fear or embarrassment and must report incidents immediately, a cyber expert from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate told officials and employees of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).
Assistant Police Inspector Vaibhav Patil of the Cyber Police Station addressed a cyber safety awareness session at PMRDA organised under the District Information Office’s ‘Loksamvad-2026’ initiative during Ganeshotsav.
Patil warned that cybercriminals are increasingly targeting even educated citizens through fake investment schemes promising high returns, threats involving customs or FedEx parcels, electricity bill scams, fake reward points and WhatsApp impersonation of senior officials or employers. He also highlighted matrimonial frauds, fake loan applications and the misuse of remote-access applications such as AnyDesk and QuickSupport to gain control of mobile phones.
Patil urged citizens not to click on suspicious links, install unknown APK files or provide banking details and account access to strangers. He also warned against allowing bank accounts to be used by others in return for commissions, saying such accounts can lead to legal action.
Citizens facing cyber fraud should immediately call 1930 or register a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in, he said. PMRDA officials including Chief Accounts and Finance Officer Jitendra Kolambe and Deputy Commissioner (Administration) Rajesh Mashere attended the session.
