Pune’s Biggest Traffic Relief Projects Get a Boost
HCMT Road and Inner Ring Road land acquisition gains momentum; joint measurement deadline set for October 30
Pune : Pune’s major traffic decongestion projects — the 24-metre-wide High Capacity Mass Transit Route (HCMT Road) and the 65-metre-wide Inner Ring Road — are set to gain momentum, with District Collector Jitendra Dudi directing officials to complete the joint measurement of land required for both projects by October 30, 2026.
The two infrastructure projects are considered crucial to easing Pune’s growing traffic congestion by reducing the burden on existing roads and improving traffic movement across the city.
The directive was issued during a joint review meeting held at the District Collector’s Office to assess the progress of land acquisition and other pending procedures. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, PMRDA Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhary, Additional Municipal Commissioners Pavneet Kaur and Omprakash Divte, and Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manoj Patil were among the senior officials present.
During the meeting, Dudi emphasised the need to complete land demarcation and joint measurement within the stipulated deadline. The civic administration was also directed to promptly submit supplementary documents and technical reports required to secure approval for the transfer of land under the state government’s jurisdiction.
Officials reviewed the coordination required among the district administration, PMC, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and the police department to expedite the projects. The timely completion of land acquisition, particularly for private properties and government-owned land, was identified as a key requirement for taking the projects forward.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manoj Patil highlighted the importance of the HCMT Road and Inner Ring Road in reducing traffic pressure on Pune’s internal road network.
Pune Grand Tour 2027 preparations reviewed
The meeting also reviewed infrastructure development, road connectivity and traffic management preparations in view of the upcoming Pune Grand Tour 2027.
Officials said the process concerning land under the jurisdiction of the Central government’s defence and railway departments had received a positive response. Further coordination will be required to complete the transfer of state government land and acquisition of private properties within the stipulated timelines.
With the October 30 deadline approaching, the focus is now on completing joint measurements and clearing procedural hurdles to accelerate these long-awaited projects aimed at improving Pune’s traffic infrastructure.
