PCMC to Celebrate Classical Marathi Language Week

  • Week-long programmes planned from October 3 to 9

PIMPRI : The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will organise various literary, cultural and educational programmes from October 3 to 9 to mark Classical Marathi Language Day and Classical Marathi Language Week.

A planning meeting was held at the Madhukarrao Pawale Hall in the PCMC’s main administrative building under the chairmanship of Mayor Ravi Landge. Landge appealed to writers, artists, literary organisations and citizens to participate actively in the initiative to promote and preserve the Marathi language.

Suggestions were made to include books written by local authors in PCMC libraries, give local writers and artists opportunities in civic programmes, and involve organisations working for Marathi language preservation.

Participants also suggested organising essay writing, poetry and story writing, letter writing, reading, proverbs, riddles and other competitions in schools. Training in Marathi folk arts, including the Shahiri tradition, and programmes such as “Author Meets Students” were also proposed.

Other suggestions included exhibitions of classical Marathi literature and ancient manuscripts, lectures, seminars, workshops and book sales. Some programmes could be held in the evening to enable working people to participate.

Citizens, writers, poets, artists, scholars and social organisations have been invited to submit their suggestions in writing to the PCMC Information and Public Relations Department or email them to pro@pcmcindia.gov.in.
