Pimpri : A significant proposal to install oil portraits of former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Late Ajit Pawar, former MLA Late Laxman Jagtap, and Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar at the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) headquarters has been placed before the Standing Committee for approval at its meeting scheduled on Thursday (July 16). The proposal has reached its final stage following the initiative and consistent follow-up by Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne. Once approved, the portraits will be displayed at prominent locations in the municipal headquarters and council hall.

According to the proposal prepared by the civic administration, the oil portraits of Late Ajit Pawar and Late Laxman Jagtap will be installed in the prominent display area of the PCMC’s main administrative building. The portrait of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar will be placed inside the municipal council hall. Approval has also been sought to award the work through the direct procurement method as per the provisions of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act.

The General Body of the PCMC had earlier approved the installation of portraits of Late Ajit Pawar and Late Laxman Jagtap. Subsequently, directions were issued by the Mayor to install the portrait of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar in the council hall. With the Standing Committee now set to consider the proposal, the process has entered its final phase.

The proposal states that noted artist Sunil Shegaonkar will prepare the portraits. The portraits of Late Ajit Pawar and Late Laxman Jagtap will each measure 8 ft x 5 ft, while the portrait of Ahilyadevi Holkar will measure 6 ft 6 in x 4 ft. The expenditure will be met from the municipal budget under the special works allocation. Shegaonkar had earlier created the oil portrait of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee displayed at the PCMC headquarters.

A Tribute to Leaders Who Shaped the City’s Development

The initiative was pursued by Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne with the objective of preserving the legacy of leaders who made significant contributions to the development of Pimpri-Chinchwad and inspiring future generations through their work. Barne played a key role in ensuring that the administration prepared the proposal and placed it before the Standing Committee for approval. Civic officials said that once the proposal receives approval at Thursday’s meeting, the work of installing the portraits will commence.

The decision is being viewed as an important step towards honouring distinguished personalities whose contributions have left a lasting impact on the city’s growth and ensuring that their legacy continues to inspire citizens and visitors to the PCMC headquarters.
