Dehu-Alandi Region to Get ‘Sant Bhoomi’ Status : MLA Shankar Jagtap

  • Demand submitted to CM Devendra Fadnavis to recognise the sacred region

Pimpri: Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap has demanded that the Dehu-Alandi region, a major centre of the Warkari tradition, be officially declared as ‘Sant Bhoomi’ (Land of Saints).

In a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Jagtap said Maharashtra has a rich legacy of saints. The holy places of Alandi and Dehu hold immense spiritual importance as they are associated with Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj.

He stated that the 16-km stretch between Dehu and Alandi is enriched with Warkari traditions, spirituality and saint literature, making it a significant pilgrimage centre for lakhs of devotees.

Jagtap suggested granting the region a legal status similar to Uttarakhand’s recognition as ‘Devbhoomi’. He said the move would help preserve Maharashtra’s spiritual heritage and strengthen the cultural identity of the Warkari community.

“This sacred land blessed by Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj represents the spirit of the Warkari tradition. Declaring Dehu-Alandi as ‘Sant Bhoomi’ will honour Maharashtra’s spiritual legacy and enhance the importance of this pilgrimage region.”
