Suspend Penalty Action on Waste Rules for Societies : MLA Shankar Jagtap
- Demand for awareness drive and practical implementation plan
Pimpri: Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap has demanded that Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) temporarily stop penalty and legal action against Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) under Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.
In a letter to PCMC Commissioner, Jagtap said strict action without checking the practical difficulties faced by housing societies and establishments may create fear and dissatisfaction among citizens.
He said environmental protection and proper waste management are important, but many societies are facing issues related to space, technical facilities, manpower and financial capacity for wet waste processing.
Jagtap demanded that PCMC should first conduct awareness campaigns, provide clear guidelines and hold discussions with citizens before implementing strict action.
“Eco-friendly waste management is necessary, but keeping societies under constant threat of penalties is not the solution. PCMC should first discuss with citizens, create awareness and announce a practical action plan before taking strict action.”
