Develop PCMC School in Punawale Instead of Giving Land to Private Institution : Rahul Kalate

  • Demand for modern civic school or 40% admission quota for locals

Pimpri : Corporator Rahul Kalate has opposed the proposal to lease a reserved school plot in Punawale to a private educational institution and demanded that Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) develop its own modern school on the land.

During the PCMC General Body meeting, Kalate raised concerns over the decision to lease the 91-guntha reserved plot meant for a secondary school. He demanded a detailed inquiry into the process and questioned why local representatives and citizens were not taken into confidence.

Kalate said the rapidly growing areas of Wakad, Tathawade and Punawale need more public facilities due to increasing population. He suggested that the available reserved land should be used for a modern municipal school, sports facilities and other civic amenities.

He pointed out that PCMC has successfully developed a CBSE-pattern school in Wakad and similar facilities should be created in Punawale and Tathawade.

Kalate also submitted a proposal demanding that if a private institution is allowed, at least 40% of admissions should be reserved for PCMC employees and local residents’ children.

“With rapid urbanisation in Wakad, Tathawade and Punawale, available reserved land is already insufficient for public facilities. PCMC should develop its own school here, and 40% seats should be reserved for municipal employees and local citizens.”
