“Put a Private Sale Board on PCMC Building” — Shiv Sena Protest Against Alleged Privatization
- Chetan Pawar Leads Protest Over Reserved Land, Education Department and Civic Issues
Pimpri : Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) staged a protest march in Pimpri-Chinchwad against alleged corruption and mismanagement in the municipal administration and education department.
City chief Chetan Pawar criticised the PCMC administration over the decision to lease a reserved plot in Punawale, saying the land should be used for a municipal school for children from economically weaker sections instead of being handed over to a private organisation.
Pawar sarcastically demanded that a board stating “reserved municipal plots available on lease for private institutions” should be displayed on the PCMC headquarters if such decisions continue.
He alleged that a 91-guntha reserved plot in Punawale was approved to be given on a 30-year lease at a nominal rate and questioned the administration’s decision-making process.
The protestors also demanded development of the playground reservation at Dapodi, better facilities in schools, action against industries polluting the Pavana and Indrayani rivers, and cleaning of drains across the city.
The march was held with traditional musical instruments and slogans against the administration. Several Shiv Sena office-bearers and party workers participated in the protest.
