PCMC to Cut Unnecessary Consultant Costs

  • Action against unnecessary consultants to reduce burden on civic treasury

Pimpri : Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barane has taken a strict stand against the rising expenses on consultant agencies and directed the administration to review all ongoing consultant contracts.

During the Standing Committee meeting, corporators raised concerns over repeated appointments of the same consultant firms and the growing dependence on external agencies for routine works. Barane instructed officials to stop appointing consultants for every small and major project and ensure officers take responsibility for departmental work.

He questioned the need for outside consultants when the civic body already has technically qualified officers and engineers.

Barane also directed that contracts of consultants not required for projects should be cancelled after review. The move is expected to improve financial discipline and transparency in PCMC.

“Every rupee in the municipal treasury belongs to taxpayers. Spending crores on unnecessary consultants is a misuse of public money. Consultants should be appointed only for highly technical and complex works. Officers must take full responsibility for their departments. The saved funds can be used for basic civic facilities.”
