Sunetra Pawar Wins Baramati Bypoll with Record Margin

Pune : Sunetra Pawar registered a decisive victory in the Baramati assembly by-election, securing a massive mandate and setting a new benchmark in the constituency’s electoral history.

Backed by deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar’s faction, she polled 2,18,930 votes and maintained a commanding lead from the early rounds of counting, eventually turning the contest into a one-sided affair.

The bypoll had drawn statewide attention following recent political developments within the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). However, the contest saw limited opposition, with no major challenger mounting a strong campaign. Several contenders who initially entered the fray later withdrew their nominations, leading to a largely uncontested election.

Leaders from across political factions, including supporters of Sharad Pawar, extended support to Sunetra Pawar during the campaign. With this win, Sunetra Pawar has surpassed the previous record set by Ajit Pawar, who had won the Baramati seat in 2019 with a margin of over 1.65 lakh votes. The latest result marks the highest-ever victory margin in the constituency.

Baramati has historically witnessed decisive mandates, with Ajit Pawar winning the seat multiple times by significant margins. The 2026 bypoll result further reinforces this trend, indicating a consolidation of support in favour of Sunetra Pawar.

The outcome reflects strong political backing as well as voter confidence, cementing her position in the region’s political landscape.
