Pedal Power for PCMC : E-Bicycle Project Gets Green Signal
- Standing Committee Approves ‘Easy Pedal’ E-Bicycle Project in Pimpri-Chinchwad
Pimpri : In a move aimed at improving last-mile connectivity and promoting affordable, eco-friendly transport, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s Standing Committee has approved the “Easy Pedal” e-bicycle project.
The decision was taken during a Standing Committee meeting held on Wednesday at the Late Mayor Madhukar Pavale Hall in the municipal headquarters, under the chairmanship of Abhishek Barne. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi, Additional Commissioners Vijaykumar Khorate and Trupti Sandbhor, City Secretary Mukesh Kolap, along with officials from various departments, were present.
A Startup-Driven Initiative
The project is being implemented jointly by Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Pimpri Chinchwad Smart City Ltd., and Prevai Technologies Private Limited, Bhosari, as a startup initiative. It aims to provide citizens with convenient access to public transport hubs such as metro stations, bus stops, and railway stations through e-bicycles.
Officials stated that the initiative is expected to reduce dependency on private vehicles, ease traffic congestion, and contribute to fuel savings while also lowering air and noise pollution levels.
Project Cost and Revenue Model
An agreement for the project was signed on March 14, 2024, between the three entities. The entire project cost will be borne by Prevai Technologies. In return, the company will share 10 percent of the generated revenue with the municipal corporation.
Currently, the service is being operated on a pilot basis at select docking stations for two hours each in the morning and evening. Once fully launched, the service will be available throughout the day.
Tariff Structure Approved
Based on a proposal submitted by the company on January 28, 2026, the Standing Committee has approved the fare structure. The rates have been kept affordable initially to encourage public participation, with scope for revisions based on user response.
The approved rates are as follows
- Regular Bicycle : ₹0.25 per minute (minimum ₹5 per ride)
- Regular Bicycle Monthly Pass: ₹350 (100 minutes per day)
- Electric Bicycle: ₹0.50 per minute (minimum ₹10 per ride)
- Electric Bicycle Monthly Pass: ₹550 (100 minutes per day)
- One-Day Pass (Regular): ₹60 (300 minutes)
- One-Day Pass (Electric): ₹100 (300 minutes)
With the approval of the project, civic officials expressed confidence that Pimpri-Chinchwad will witness a boost in sustainable and modern urban mobility, offering residents a practical and environmentally responsible transport alternative.
