Demand for New Electrical Substation in Pimpri to Tackle Power Issues

  • MLC Amit Gorkhe raises key concerns in meeting chaired by Energy Minister Meghna Bordikar

Pimpri : Highlighting frequent power disruptions in several parts of the city, MLC Amit Gorkhe has demanded the establishment of a new electrical substation for Pimpri. The issue was raised during a meeting on power distribution challenges in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, chaired by Minister of State for Energy Meghna Bordikar at Prakash Bhavan on Senapati Bapat Road in Pune.

Gorkhe pointed out that areas including Sambhajinagar, Kalbhornagar, Vidyanagar, Dattanagar, Indiranagar, Morwadi, Akurdi, Pimpri village, Dapodi and Sant Tukaram Nagar are facing frequent power cuts. Currently, these areas depend on the Tata Telco substation, which also supplies electricity to distant regions such as Chakan and Chikhali, leading to excessive load and disruptions.

He stressed that setting up a dedicated substation for Pimpri is essential to ensure uninterrupted power supply. Along with this, Gorkhe put forward several key demands, including upgrading transformer capacity, installing FRP fencing for safety, replacing old LT and HT cables, modernising feeder pillars, and undergrounding overhead power lines.

He also called for shifting transformers and DP structures from accident-prone locations and improving overall infrastructure to prevent outages. Emphasising the growing challenges faced by citizens, Gorkhe stated that a new substation remains the most effective long-term solution to the city’s electricity problems.
