Commissioner Should Avoid Irresponsible Statements Insulting the City : MLC Amit Gorkhe

Pimpri : MLC Amit Gorkhe has strongly criticised Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi for his alleged statement in a television interview questioning Pimpri-Chinchwad’s global recognition, calling the remark unfortunate and irresponsible.

In a statement, Gorkhe said Pimpri-Chinchwad is not just a city but an important industrial, social, and historical centre on the country’s map. He said the city is globally known for its industrial development, with major companies like Tata Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, and Bajaj Auto operating here and contributing significantly to the country’s economy.

He also highlighted the city’s cultural and spiritual importance, noting that pilgrimage centres like Dehu and Alandi attract lakhs of devotees from across the country and abroad.

Gorkhe further said, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is considered one of the strong municipal bodies in the country and has built a national identity through Smart City projects, infrastructure, healthcare and education development.

He urged the Municipal Commissioner to study the city’s history, industrial growth, and socio-economic contribution before making public statements, adding that Pimpri-Chinchwad is a matter of pride not only for Maharashtra but for the entire country.
