Worm Found in Chicken Biryani at Pimpri Eatery; FDA Complaint Likely
Incident reported in Ajmera’s Vastu Udyog Chowk area; questions raised over food hygiene and quality standards
PIMPRI A worm was allegedly found in a parcel of chicken biryani purchased from an eatery in the Ajmera–Vastu Udyog Chowk area of Pimpri on Monday (November 2), raising concerns over food hygiene and safety standards at local eateries.
According to the information available, a friend of a lawyer had purchased a parcel of chicken biryani from the outlet. After reaching home and opening the parcel, the customer noticed something unusual in the food. On closer inspection, a worm was allegedly found in the biryani.
The customer immediately returned to the shop and showed the food to the owner. The shop owner reportedly apologised for the incident and refunded the amount paid for the biryani.
However, the lawyer concerned said that a refund alone cannot address the larger issue of food safety and public health. He stated that a complaint would soon be lodged with the concerned department of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), seeking an investigation into the incident.
The lawyer also appealed to citizens to exercise caution while purchasing food items and avoid outlets where hygiene standards are questionable.
Interestingly, the customer does not usually consume food from outside. However, seeing a large crowd outside the shop, he decided to purchase biryani from the outlet. The incident highlights that a crowded food establishment does not necessarily guarantee the quality or hygiene of the food being served.
Are Food Hygiene Standards Being Followed ?
Maintaining proper cleanliness and hygiene while preparing and selling food is essential to protecting public health. The alleged discovery of a worm in chicken biryani raises questions about food handling, kitchen sanitation and quality control at the outlet. There is a demand for the concerned authorities to inspect the establishment and verify whether prescribed food safety and hygiene standards are being followed. The proposed FDA complaint is expected to bring the matter to the attention of the authorities.
