PCMC Standing Committee Pays Tribute to Moshi Tragedy Victims
– Chairmanship Handed to Corporator Sarika Gaikwad in a Gesture of Respect
Pimpri : The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Standing Committee on Thursday paid heartfelt tributes to the workers who lost their lives in the tragic Moshi garbage depot accident. In view of the tragedy that has plunged the city into mourning, Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne displayed a remarkable gesture of sensitivity by deciding to adjourn the meeting.
In a significant move, Barne entrusted the chairmanship of the day’s Standing Committee meeting to Corporator Sarika Gaikwad, who represents Ward No. 3 (Moshi). Presiding over the meeting, Gaikwad moved and approved a resolution expressing condolences to the deceased workers on behalf of all committee members. She also conveyed that the municipal administration and elected representatives stand in solidarity with the bereaved families during this difficult time.
Members of the Standing Committee observed a two-minute silence in memory of the deceased workers and offered their heartfelt respects. Following the tribute, Chairperson Gaikwad announced that no regular business would be conducted and adjourned the meeting until July 22, 2026.
The decision reflected the Standing Committee’s commitment to placing humanity and compassion above routine administrative work. At a time when the Moshi tragedy has deeply saddened the city, the committee’s gesture sent a strong message that honoring the memory of the victims takes precedence over official proceedings.
Members welcomed Chairman Abhishek Barne’s decision, stating that setting aside political differences to pay homage to the deceased is a moral and social responsibility of public representatives. As a result, the meeting became more than a procedural exercise, standing instead as a symbol of compassion, sensitivity, and respect for human values.
