Dry Day in Pune, PCMC Today Till 4 PM

Liquor sales suspended during polling for Maharashtra Legislative Council elections

Pune : Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad are observing a dry day today as polling for the Maharashtra Legislative Council’s graduates’ and teachers’ constituencies is underway. Liquor sales in the notified areas have been prohibited until 4 pm following revised orders issued by the district administration in accordance with the Bombay High Court’s directions.

Under the revised order, liquor shops, beer and wine outlets, bars, clubs and hotels in the notified areas must suspend sales from midnight until 4 pm on Friday. Sales may resume after 4 pm, subject to the applicable licence conditions.

Three-Day Dry Day Order Revised

The administration had initially imposed a three-day liquor sale ban to ensure peaceful and fair polling for five Legislative Council seats—three graduates’ and two teachers’ constituencies.

However, liquor traders challenged the extended restriction before the Bombay High Court. Following a hearing on October 21, the administration shortened the prohibition period in line with the court’s directions.

The district administration and the State Excise Department subsequently issued revised orders.

Separate Restriction on October 27

A separate liquor sale restriction will apply in the notified area of Balewadi on October 27, the day of vote counting.

Residents and liquor vendors have been advised to follow the revised orders and applicable restrictions.
