MA Marathi Qualified Employees to Get Two Special Increments in PCMC

Decision aimed at increasing the use of Marathi in civic administration

Pimpri : In a significant move to promote the use of Marathi in official work, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to grant two special salary increments to employees who have completed an MA in Marathi. The resolution was passed during a special meeting of the civic body’s Law Committee and will be placed before the General Body for final approval.

The meeting was chaired by Law Committee Chairperson Sujata Borate and attended by corporators Dnyaneshwar Jagtap, Kushagra Kadam, Varsha Jagtap, Tushar Sahane, Kunda Bhise, and Shekhar Chinchawade. Additional Commissioner Manoj Lonkar and Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Agale were also present.

The decision aims to ensure 100% usage of Marathi in the day-to-day functioning of the municipal corporation and to make administrative communication simpler, clearer, and more meaningful.

PCMC has already been making efforts to strengthen the use of Marathi across departments. Most official work, documentation, and communication are currently conducted in Marathi, and further emphasis is being placed on increasing its usage.

The initiative also aligns with broader government recommendations to establish Marathi as a language of knowledge and employment, expand its use in fields such as science, technology, and medicine, and develop it with modern technological support. Additionally, efforts are being made to create administrative Marathi that is easily understandable to the general public while preserving regional dialects.

Officials believe that encouraging employees to pursue higher education in Marathi will enhance writing, translation, and communication skills, leading to more effective governance and improved administrative efficiency.

“Our primary objective is to ensure effective and widespread use of Marathi in the functioning of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. Granting special increments to MA Marathi-qualified employees will encourage them to pursue higher education in the language. This will help make the administration more simple, transparent, and citizen-friendly.”
