Illegal Gas Refilling Cases Surface Amid Supply Shortage in PCMC
Pimpri : Police have uncovered multiple cases of illegal gas refilling in Pimpri-Chinchwad over the past two days, raising concerns over public safety as highly inflammable gas was being handled without safety measures.
Police conducted three separate actions over the past two days in the jurisdictions of Dighi, Bhosari and Sangvi police stations. At a labour camp in Pride World City in Dighi, a person was found illegally extracting gas from domestic cylinders and storing it. In another case in Bhagat Vasti area of Bhosari, police found gas being transferred from large cylinders into smaller containers for illegal sale.
In a more serious incident in the Pimple Gurav area under Sangvi police station limits, police caught an accused red-handed while illegally refilling gas cylinders. A large number of cylinders and refilling equipment were seized during the operation.
Police officials said the accused were handling highly inflammable gas without following any safety protocols, posing a serious risk of fire or explosion. Officials said some individuals were attempting to take advantage of the gas shortage for financial gain, putting citizens’ lives at risk.
Following these incidents, there have been demands for strict action against illegal gas refilling operations. Police are expected to intensify inspections and enforcement action in the coming days to prevent such dangerous and illegal activities and ensure public safety.
