Palkhi Halt in Pune May Be Shifted Due to Space and Facility Issues

Pune : The management of the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi Procession is considering shifting the traditional two-day halt in Pune from the Palakhi Vitthoba Temple to an alternative location due to increasing logistical difficulties faced by devotees.

The proposed move comes amid concerns over inadequate accommodation space, long darshan queues, lack of parking, insufficient toilets and drinking water, narrow roads, and frequent traffic congestion in the Bhavani Peth area. The issue was discussed during a meeting in Pandharpur between representatives of the Palkhi Sohala Dindi Samaj Sanghatana and the Alandi Devasthan on Saturday (March 28).

Officials said a final decision regarding the new halt location in Pune will be announced on April 13. Possible alternative venues being considered include large open grounds such as Sanas Ground, Race Course Ground, and Nehru Stadium, where better arrangements for accommodation, security, parking, and basic facilities can be provided.

Authorities clarified that the move is being considered purely for the convenience and safety of the thousands of warkaris participating in the procession, and not to hurt religious sentiments. All options are currently under review, and a final decision will be taken after discussions with concerned departments and stakeholders.
