916 Tonnes Waste Managed Under Zero Waste Slum Initiative

  • Dapodi and Gavlimatha areas see major improvement in waste management

Pimpri : The Zero Waste Slum initiative implemented by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in Dapodi and Gavlimatha areas is showing effective and sustainable results in waste management. Under this initiative, a total of 916 tonnes of waste was safely managed between March 1 and March 24, 2026.

The initiative is being carried out under the guidance of Mayor Ravi Landge, Deputy Mayor Sharmila Baber, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi, and Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate. The implementation is being supervised by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Pradeep Thengal, Assistant Commissioner Kirankumar More, and Regional Officers Ajinkya Yele and Pooja Dudhanale in Dapodi and Gavlimatha areas.

According to data from the Health Department, nearly 916 tonnes of waste was collected during the period. This included approximately 620.38 kg of dry waste, 3.29 tonnes of wet waste, 280.50 kg of sanitary waste, and 11.95 kg of domestic hazardous waste, all of which were safely processed and disposed of.

Over the past 24 days, the Zero Waste Slum initiative was effectively implemented across 9,994 households in Dapodi and Gavlimatha. The initiative has significantly improved waste segregation, collection, and disposal processes. Special emphasis is being placed on waste segregation at source, recycling, and reuse, marking an important step toward environmental sustainability and a cleaner city.

Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate appealed to citizens to actively participate in the initiative by segregating household waste into wet, dry, sanitary, and domestic hazardous waste and by following proper waste management rules.
