MLC Amit Gorkhe Demands Separate Additional Collector Office for Pimpri-Chinchwad
Pune : Amit Gorkhe, Member of the Legislative Council, has demanded that the Maharashtra government approve a separate Additional Collector office for Pimpri-Chinchwad considering the city’s growing population and industrial importance.
Raising the issue through a Point of Information during the budget session of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Gorkhe said that despite the government recently approving 11 new Additional Collector offices, Pimpri-Chinchwad was not included in the list.
He pointed out that the city has a population of around 20 to 25 lakh, which is higher than many districts, and the current administrative system is struggling to handle issues such as land transfers, NA permissions and rehabilitation. Citizens currently have to travel to Pune for such work.
Gorkhe said establishing a separate office would reduce more than 50 percent of the administrative burden on the Pune District Collectorate and speed up governance.
He also urged the government to consider setting up a separate revenue authority with powers related to land revenue, mining and rehabilitation for Pimpri-Chinchwad and take an early decision in the interest of the city’s development.
