Pune: Sanitary napkins placed on PMC Commissioner’s car due to delay in supply
A Shiv Sena MP from outside Pune district attempted to secure a contract for a company named Stayzy Hygiene, while a BJP MLA from Pune city, Kolex, sought the contract for another company.
The delay in providing sanitary napkins to girls in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) schools has been attributed to a conflict between Shiv Sena’s Shinde faction MPs and BJP MLAs. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) expressed their dissatisfaction by affixing sanitary napkins to the municipal commissioner’s vehicle.
To address this issue, women activists from AAP approached the commissioner to demand the distribution of sanitary napkins in municipal schools. During their visit, they resorted to a unique form of protest by attaching sanitary napkins to the commissioner’s car.
The protest involved the participation of several individuals, including Surekha Bhosale, Chhaya Bhagat, Annie Anish, Shraddha Shetty, Shaheen Attar, Padma Salunkhe, Tehseen Desai, Pooja Waghmare, Seema Tak, Shabana Shaikh, Raisa Siddiqui, Poonam Wadkar, Payal Wadkar, and others.
The distribution of sanitary napkins to girls in municipal schools was halted due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, the PMC initiated a tender process to procure napkins, with three vendors participating. However, both factions were instructed to take further action, leading to a conflict. A Shiv Sena MP from outside Pune district attempted to secure a contract for a company named Stayzy Hygiene, while a BJP MLA from Pune city, Kolex, sought the contract for another company. This dispute created a dilemma for the civic body, resulting in a delay in the tender process.
