Doctor, Daughter and Woman Staffer Allegedly Assaulted at Rahatani Clinic
Dispute over prescriptions issued to other medical stores leads to police case against six named persons and two unidentified individuals
RAHATANI : A dispute over prescriptions allegedly being sent to other medical stores escalated into violence at Shri Mahavir Clinic in Rahatani, where a doctor, his daughter and a female staff member were allegedly abused and assaulted. The doctor was also allegedly threatened with death, according to the police complaint.
Sangvi police have registered a case against six named persons and two unidentified individuals in connection with the incident.
According to police, the incident took place around 1 pm on October 19 at Shri Mahavir Clinic, located near Shivaji Statue, in front of Laxmibhakti Housing Society in Rahatani. Dr Sandeep Vasantlal Lunawat, 58, lodged the complaint.
The complaint alleges that Omkar Sunil Patil, who operates Gurukrupa Medical Store next to the clinic, confronted the doctor over prescriptions allegedly being directed to other medical stores instead of his establishment. The confrontation reportedly led to a commotion inside the clinic.
During the dispute, Omkar Patil’s mother, Sangita Patil, allegedly abused and assaulted Lata Kolte, a female employee at the clinic, the complaint states.
When the argument continued, the doctor’s daughter, Shweta, attempted to intervene. She was allegedly abused and pushed.
Subsequently, the accused person’s sister, her husband and two unidentified individuals allegedly entered the clinic. They allegedly abused and physically assaulted the doctor and threatened to kill him, according to the complaint.
Following the incident, Sangvi police registered a case under Crime Register No. 701/2026 under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 4 of the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act, 2010.
Assistant Police Inspector Malegave is conducting further investigation.
The allegations are part of the police complaint, and the investigation is underway.
