MLA Amit Gorkhe Demands International Sports University in Pimpri-Chinchwad

Pimpri : Amit Gorkhe has urged the state government to set up an International Sports University in Pimpri-Chinchwad. He raised the issue in the Legislative Council during the budget session and asked the government to take an early decision on the proposal.

Gorkhe suggested that the university could be developed on vacant land owned by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation in the central part of the city.

While presenting his demand, he said Pimpri-Chinchwad is rapidly developing and is located between Mumbai and Pune. The city already has good connectivity through railways, metro and road networks and is also a major educational hub with thousands of students.

He said that establishing an international-level sports university would help nurture talented athletes and provide world-class training facilities under one roof. Such a project could help produce future national and Olympic-level players.

Gorkhe also mentioned that he has been following up with the government on the issue for the past two months and had earlier written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis requesting approval for the project.

If approved, the proposed university could help develop Pimpri-Chinchwad into a major sports hub and give local athletes opportunities to compete at the international level, he said.
