PCMC to Frame Policy for Tree Pruning in Housing Societies

– Move aims to curb illegal tree cutting and reduce residents’ financial burden

Pimpri : The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will formulate a separate and comprehensive policy for pruning trees and branches within housing societies, Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne has directed the civic administration.

The decision aims to strike a balance between public safety and environmental conservation. With complaints regarding illegal tree cutting and unauthorised pruning increasing, the proposed policy is expected to streamline the process and prevent unnecessary or unauthorised cutting of trees.

Barne directed the Garden Department and other concerned departments to jointly prepare uniform guidelines for tree pruning. The policy will also establish a clear permission process and help ensure greater transparency in the work.

At present, residents and housing society office-bearers often have to bear significant expenses for pruning dangerous branches or trees within society premises. Taking note of the issue, Barne said the civic body should take responsibility for the process so that residents are not forced to bear the financial burden.

“Citizens frequently approach the civic body with requests for pruning trees and branches within housing societies. The PCMC is committed to ensuring that residents do not face a financial burden for this work. A separate policy will be introduced soon, and the administration will bear the cost of the process. Officials have been instructed to prepare the draft policy at the earliest.”
