After Wakad Suicide, PCMC Moves to Strengthen Women’s Safety

Pimpri : The suicide of Shilpa Gaware, a married woman from Wakad, sparked strong reactions during a Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) general body meeting, with corporators demanding strict action against dowry-related harassment, domestic violence and physical and mental abuse of women.

Members demanded that the accused in the case face stringent action and that the matter be heard in a fast-track court. They also called for a dedicated civic mechanism to help women report complaints and access support.

Mayor Ravi Landge directed the administration to establish counselling centres for women at all 10 regional offices. He also proposed a dedicated online portal and website through which women can register complaints and seek assistance. Landge further said he would meet the Police Commissioner to discuss measures for strengthening women’s safety in the city.
