Woman Dies After Dahi Handi Structure Falls on Her in Sangvi

• 45-year-old woman killed while iron structure was being removed after the festival

Pimpri : A 45-year-old woman died after a large iron structure erected for a Dahi Handi celebration collapsed on her while it was being dismantled in Old Sangvi.

The deceased has been identified as Salma Salauddin Pathan (45). According to preliminary information, members of the Dahi Handi mandal were dismantling the temporary iron structure at around 11 pm after the event concluded. During the process, a portion of the structure suddenly slipped and fell, striking Pathan on the head. She sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.

Son was a Member of the Mandal

In a tragic turn, Pathan’s son was reportedly an active member of the Dahi Handi mandal. The family is said to have initially declined to file a formal complaint with the police due to the son’s association with the organisers. However, considering the seriousness of the incident, police took suo motu cognisance and registered an accidental death case. Further investigation is underway. The incident has once again raised concerns over safety measures while erecting and dismantling temporary structures for public festivals. Authorities and organisers have been urged to ensure adequate safety precautions during such activities.
