G Block Redevelopment Gets Green Signal in Pimpri-Chinchwad

• MIDC approves policy for old and dangerous buildings; MLC Amit Gorkhe’s sustained efforts since 2024 pay off

Pimpri : The long-pending redevelopment of old and dilapidated residential buildings in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Shahunagar’s ‘G Block’ area in Pimpri-Chinchwad has finally received a major policy push.

The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Board of Directors has approved a policy facilitating the redevelopment of old and dangerous buildings on residential plots. The decision follows sustained efforts by MLC Amit Gorkhe since 2024 to address the safety concerns and redevelopment difficulties faced by residents.

Gorkhe had raised the issue during the Maharashtra Legislative Council’s Winter Session in Nagpur on December 19, 2024. He had highlighted the deteriorating condition of old buildings in the MIDC residential area and demanded a concrete policy to enable their redevelopment.

Acting on the issue, the MIDC Board, at its meeting held on May 15, 2026, approved the redevelopment policy under Resolution No. 7204.

Under the approved policy, redevelopment of dangerous buildings and those more than 30 years old will be permitted in accordance with Regulation 6.4 of the CDCPR-23. In cases where additional dwelling units are required during redevelopment of buildings less than 30 years old, redevelopment will also be permitted subject to applicable charges and regulations.

The MIDC Board has also approved the appointment of co-developers for redevelopment of residential plots, on the lines of provisions available for the information technology sector. The move is expected to facilitate and speed up the actual redevelopment process.

‘A major relief for residents’

Speaking on the decision, MLC Amit Gorkhe said the redevelopment issue had been a long-standing demand of residents of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Shahunagar.

“Residents living in old and dangerous buildings need both safety and access to better, modern housing facilities. I raised the issue during the 2024 Winter Session and continued to pursue it with the government and MIDC. The approval of the redevelopment policy by the MIDC Board is a major relief and a significant step forward for residents,” he said.

Gorkhe added that he would continue pursuing the matter to ensure that the necessary administrative procedures are completed at the earliest and the redevelopment process begins without further delay.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Industries Minister Dr Uday Samant, in a letter addressed to Gorkhe, informed him about the decision taken by the MIDC Board. The minister stated that MIDC was taking immediate steps to implement the approved policy for redevelopment of old and dangerous residential buildings.

The decision is expected to provide significant relief to residents of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Shahunagar and the adjoining ‘G Block’ area, many of whom have been waiting for years for redevelopment of their ageing buildings.

Gorkhe also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar for their support in the matter.
