Demand for ‘A-B-C-D’ Sub-Categorisation of 59 Scheduled Castes Gains Attention

MLA Amit Gorkhe Stages Protest

Mumbai : MLC Amit Gorkhe has demanded the immediate implementation of ‘A-B-C-D’ sub-categorisation within Scheduled Castes to ensure fair justice, representation, and equal development opportunities for all communities.

He stated that among the 59 Scheduled Castes, benefits of reservation and government schemes are not evenly distributed. While some communities have progressed, others still remain deprived. Sub-categorisation based on population, social, and educational status is necessary to ensure balanced development.

Unique Protest to Highlight Issue

To draw the government’s attention, Gorkhe staged a symbolic protest in a unique way. He wore a garland displaying the names of 59 Scheduled Castes, highlighting the demand for sub-classification. The protest aimed to stress the need for equal opportunities within the community.

Call for Equal Justice

Speaking on the issue, Gorkhe said that it is the moral and social responsibility of public representatives to raise their voice for justice, even while being in power. He emphasized that sub-categorisation would help bring deprived sections into the mainstream by ensuring fair access to education, jobs, and welfare schemes.

He also urged the government to immediately accept the report submitted by the Justice Anant Badar Committee and take a positive decision at the earliest.

Gorkhe had earlier raised the issue by wearing a shirt printed with ‘A, B, C, D’ both inside and outside the Assembly. His continued efforts have once again brought the issue of sub-categorisation into public discussion.

The demand is now gaining momentum, with expectations that the state government will take a concrete decision soon.
