Thergaon’s Sporting Heroes Hoistthe Flag on the International Stage !

Pimpri : Players from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Water Sports Centre in Thergaon have brought laurels to the city by winning silver medals while representing India at the “Asian Dragon Boat Championship 2026”, held in Kyotango, Japan. Recognising their outstanding achievement, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne felicitated the medal-winning players and applauded their remarkable performance.
The championship was held in Kyotango, Japan, from August 6 to 8, where five players from Thergaon won silver medals in both the D10 200-metre and D10 500-metre categories. Their achievement at the international level while representing India was lauded by Barne during a felicitation programme held at the Pimpri-Chinchwad Water Sports Centre in Thergaon.
Maharashtra State Directorate of Sports and Youth Services Deputy Director Sanjay Sabnis, PCMC Deputy Commissioner of Sports Pankaj Patil, Sports Committee Chairman Kailas Kute, and Sports Committee member Tanaji Barne, among others, were present on the occasion.
Dattatray Patil, chief coach of the Indian Dragon Boat team, was also felicitated for his contribution to the players’ success.
Speaking on the occasion, Barne assured that all necessary facilities and encouragement would be extended to players from Pimpri-Chinchwad to enable them to compete and excel at national and international levels. He said the PCMC has consistently taken initiatives to encourage sporting talent in the city and would continue to provide all possible support and facilities to help local athletes achieve greater success on the national and international stage.
