MNS Protest Forces Release of Pending Salaries for 200 Sanitation Workers
Pimpri : The pending salaries of around 200 sanitation workers employed for road cleaning in Prabhag No. 11 (Shahunagar-Phulenagar) and Prabhag No. 13 (Yamunanagar) under the ‘F’ Regional Office of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) were credited to their bank accounts within 24 hours following an agitation by the Maharashtra Navnirman Kamgar Sena (MNS).
According to MNS Municipal Workers’ Sena office-bearer Rupesh Bajirao Patekar, Pimpri-Chinchwad, the workers had not been receiving their salaries regularly for the past six months, creating severe financial difficulties and affecting their livelihoods. The workers launched a work-stoppage protest at Phulenagar and Yamunanagar from 6 am on August 19, demanding immediate payment of their pending wages.
As the agitation intensified, PCMC Health Officer Adhav visited the protest site and held discussions with the workers. He also contacted ‘F’ Regional Officer and Joint Commissioner Atul Patil over the phone in the presence of the protesters. The administration assured the workers that their pending salaries would be deposited within 24 hours.
The MNS said the administration honoured its commitment, with the salaries subsequently credited to the bank accounts of all 200 workers. Patekar said the union’s intervention helped resolve the six-month-old issue within a day, bringing relief to the workers.
