Abhishek Barne Directs PCMC to Withdraw 15% Water Cut

• Standing Committee Chairman orders immediate action on water supply, monsoon preparedness, waste management and Moshi tragedy relief

Pimpri : Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne has directed the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) administration to immediately withdraw the 15 per cent water cut imposed in the city and ensure an uninterrupted supply of safe drinking water to residents.

The directives were issued during the Standing Committee meeting held on Tuesday. The meeting, chaired by Barne at the Late Madhukar Pawale Hall in the PCMC headquarters, included discussions on pending agenda items from the July 16 meeting as well as the regular weekly business. Standing Committee members, including Babasaheb Tribhuvan, and senior civic officials were present. Later, Barne briefed the media on the decisions and instructions issued to the administration.

Survey dangerous trees, strengthen monsoon preparedness

Barne instructed the Garden Department to immediately survey dangerous trees, prune weak branches and remove concrete around tree bases to improve stability. He said preventive measures should be taken to minimise accidents caused by uprooted trees and falling branches during heavy rains.

Better coordination with MSEDCL

He also directed civic officials to work closely with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to address power disruptions caused by waterlogging around electrical installations and fallen tree branches. Permissions for tree pruning should be granted without delay, he added.

DMS software restored

Barne said the municipal corporation’s Document Management System (DMS) has been restored, enabling the Building Permission Department to clear pending citizen-related applications more efficiently.

Implement sports policy

He asked the administration to implement the civic body’s sports policy at the earliest so that citizens can use gyms, playgrounds, swimming pools and jogging parks in accordance with the prescribed rules.

‘Dump-free city’ remains the goal

Reiterating the corporation’s commitment to making Pimpri-Chinchwad a dump-free city, Barne said discussions with the Dehu Road and Khadki Cantonment Boards regarding future waste management arrangements had received a positive response. He added that decentralised waste processing at the ward-office level is being implemented and visible improvements are expected within the next three months.

Relief for Moshi dump tragedy victims

Barne said financial assistance to the families of workers who died in the Moshi garbage dump accident has begun. The compensation is being distributed with 50 per cent to the widow, 25 per cent to the mother and 25 per cent to the father, while in some cases the entire amount has already been transferred to the legal heirs. He also said the injured workers would receive assistance and efforts would be made to facilitate their re-employment after discussions with the administration.
